Motivating Your Employees

If you have employees, then you know the real business costs of attrition and low moral. Keeping employees engaged and productive is one of the keys to success. This task often falls to mid-managers who have no formal training in this aspect of the job.
Well, have I got a fantastic summer read for anyone who finds themselves in this position. “A Manager’s Guide to Coaching” by Anne Loehr and Brian Emerson is one of the best resources I’ve come across for giving clear, practical tips that you can use immediately in the work place.
I wish I’d had a book like this when I worked in the corporate world…actually, I wish my manager had had it. I may still be working for her today if she’d known how to effectively coach me and help me reach my goals. Loehr and Emerson understand how to empower people, and they explain the techniques in a way that makes sense. This isn’t touchy-feely stuff…this is good business sense that will help the bottom line by addressing employees’ attitudes. They even provide lists of specific questions to use for different situations. It’s great.
